FAQ

  • What can I do to ensure that I’m safely burning and caring for my candle?

Important reminder is that the first burn is the most important, burning for at least 2 hours or until the wax is melted all the way to the edges of the jar to prevent uneven burn, and to imprint the candle memory.

Candle care and safety is very important and can prevent accidents, burns and fires. Here are our top tips:

    * Always burn your candle within sight.

    * Keep away from flammables and anything that can catch fire.

    * Keep away from drafts, children, and pets.

    * Keep the wax pool free of debris

    * Always trim wick to 1/4” each time you light your candle

    * Never touch or move a hot candle.

    * Stop burning when 1/2” wax remains. If doing so, you are taking a chance at creating a large heat source which can cause your candle vessel to break.

Our candles are created to burn cleaner and longer. We recommend an optimal burn time of 2-4 hours per session. Doing so allows the candle fragrance to distribute and the soy to melt evenly on the sides of the candles.

  • What can I do if my candle is tunnelling?

If your candle starts to tunnel, your wick can have troubles staying lit. If the tunnel isn't terrible - oftentimes it can be fixed.

Candle tunnelling happens when a candle burns down its centre, leaving a ring of hard wax around the outside. This is a result of your candle not given enough time to fully melt to the outer edge (around 2 hours). This means your candle won’t achieve its maximum burn-time and the wick will become more and more difficult to light and eventually be drowned by melting wax.

Thankfully, we have a number of things you can try to do to help your candle get it’s life back.

How? Use a butter knife to carefully take out the tunnelling wax to level out the surface.

Or you can try the tin foil method below:

    1. Light your candle. Poke a hole in a piece of aluminum foil and place it around the top of your candle.

    2. This allows the heat to stay in and melt the rim of the hard wax on the sides. Keep your candle in eye sight at all times, and leave it sitting for 1-2 hours. Check every half hour, and eventually you'll have a good even wax pool and a re-set candle, Please do be careful when removing the foil, it will be hot!

    3. Note: If there's too much liquid wax melted that is now drowning the wick, use a tissue paper to soak up the excess ( please do this step when candle is unlit) and level out the wax.

The aim of the foil method is to increase the heat trapped at the top of the candle, hopefully enabling the stubborn hard wax left up the sides to melt.

  • What do I do with my empty candle jars?

Once you have burned through 10 of our candles, don’t forget to keep your jars and lids. Return them back to us to receive a free candle of your choice, and we will reuse them for future candles.

Or you can also reuse them at home for miscellaneous items; tiny plants, pens, make-up brushes, etc.

Once you have burned your candle down to the 1/4 inch, pop the container into the freezer overnight. (You can also pull the candle out after a few hours, but leaving it overnight ensures the wax freezes through.) After your candle remnants are fully frozen, flip the jar upside down in the air and forcefully bang bottom with an open palm - the wax should fall out cleanly in one large piece. If it doesn't, use a butter knife to break apart the clump of wax and remove it in pieces.

There are other methods of removing the leftover wax but this way makes less of a mess and you remove heat from the equation, making the freezer method an overall safer candle-cleaning method.

Hand-wash the jar with dish soap and water once you're done. To remove stubborn black soot or residue, try soaking the jar in soapy warm water. To remove the label and the sticky adhesive residue, using a cotton pad with a little isopropyl alcohol or goo gone and wipe the jar clean.
